Driver job at St. Clare’s Kaplong Mission Hospital.

Job purpose:

Reporting to the Transport Supervisor, the successful candidate will be driving vehicles for St. Clare’s Kaplong Mission Hospital. She/he will also be responsible for the maintenance of the vehicles assigned to them and ensuring that they are always in good working condition.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide  transportation services as needed to move persons and goods within and outside the hospital in a safe and timely manner.
2. Perform  routine checks on the vehicle, such as checking oil, water and tyre pressure lights or brakes and report any defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.
3. Observe traffic laws and regulations to ensure safety and avoid accidents.
4. Ensure the vehicle is always clean and in good working condition.
5. Maintain accurate records of mileage, fuel consumption and other vehicle-related information and ensure log sheets are assigned by the authorized officer.
6. Ensure that all necessary documentation (e.g. insurance, inspection certificate, e.t.c) and other mandatory equipment required by law for the vehicle are in place and up to date/valid.
7. Participate in emergency response activities as may be needed.
8. Verify the contents of inventory loads against delivery notes while being loaded and offloaded from the vehicles within and outside the hospital.
9. Maintain strict confidentiality of passengers/patients’ information and medical records.
10. Report any motor vehicle mechanical problems and other faults to the supervisor.
11. Report delays, accidents or other traffic and transportation situations to the supervisor for appropriate action.
12. Doing any other duty that may be assigned to him.

Qualifications and skills required.

• KCSE with a minimum grade of D+ (plus)
• Valid driving license D1 minimum with a clean driving record.

Professional qualification required to effectively perform the role:

• Public Service Vehicle driver’s license.
• Possession of a Certificate of Good conduct.
• Certification of driving by a professional body (AA of Kenya e. t. c.)
• Good knowledge of Highway code and other Kenya traffic regulations applicable to commercial operations.
• Flexible to travel at short notice.
• Must be ready to work under little or no supervision.
• Must be 35 years and above.

Minimum level of knowledge required for the job:

1. Knowledge of safety procedures and processes.
2. Training in defensive driving.
3. First Aid Skills from a recognized body.

Soft skills required for the job:

1. Good communications and interpersonal skills.
2. Observation skills.
3. Team player.
4. Ability to work under pressure.
5. Ability to work odd hours and days.
6. Available to travel anywhere at any time.
7. Ability to speak and write fluently in English and Kiswahili.

Relevant work experience

At least 5 years of experience as a driver, preferably in a hospital or institution setting.
